No welding. Find earlier magpul MIAD grip or the Stark to cover it.

Check the EE for a MIAD w/ the trigger guard front strap.

I also learned a valuable lesson when I broke an ear off.  I used that lower with a Stark grip on my AR pistol. I have to say it is a ugly grip but it is comfortable.

You can weld 7075 but I know it's not recommended on anything structural. You can use 4043 If memory serves but I have never tried personally I haven't cracked a lower yet.

I just got ahold of a rifle a coup,e of months ago with the same issue. My friend ( honestly it want me .
Anyway long story short , I checked into welded options then I was at a gun show while traveling for work and saw the Starke grip. I picked it up and felt in in my hand . I made the purchase , took it home , and it fixed the problem easier than any other option.

However - if the ear broken off is on grip side of lower you will have no issues , BUT if ear is broken off of mag well side of lower you will have to do extra work .

Also on a side note - I'm not sure why everybody says this grip is so ugly , I got one in black and not only does it has a good grip and feel , I find it non-repulsive to the eye . Don't get caught up in the anti Starke grip hype.

The owner of this AR has moved on to another project and I might end up with a second AR for cheap. NOW with it being Christmas another friend of mine has been in the market for a cheap AR. I am feeling like passing in this on to my friend for a good deal instead of selling / trading to enhance my collection. I know this last part has no bearing on the thread - but it's christmas

I busted one awhile back.  I tried to install a Troy trigger guard using a standard roll pin and it did not fit.

I used an aluminum Magpul trigger guard that i tapped on both sides to accept 6-32 or was it 8-32 button head screws.

I then put a thin layer of JB weld and then put the trigger guard in and attached the front screw and the one good one before tightened down the broken ear to the trigger guard.  I let it sit for a couple of days, and I can remove the trigger guard now and the ear will stay in place.

Bugs the shit outta me, but it's functional.

New lower will fix it no issue.  PSA has them for $50, and support the ears on the next go.
