F'n New Guy here,

I'm just starting my first AR build. My main goal is to keep it on a relatively small budget (under $700 or so) for me. I'm a grad school student, so I'm planning on my future builds having larger budgets.

My goals for the gun are basic target shooting, home defense, and zombie gun should the whole 2012 apocalypse thing play out (plus having another gun is never a bad thing). My current guns include: A Mossberg 702 Plinkster (22), a Remington 870 Express Synthetic 28" barrel (12 Gauge), a Marlin XL7 (30-06), and a Springfield XD-M (40).

I started with a stripped lower and a Doublestar LPK and 2 30 round Magpul Mags (all purchased at a local gun show for about $170)

Still haven't bought an upper or a stock yet. Will be purchasing a 16" Mid-Length upper and some sort of collapsible stock as funds permit.

I'm still pretty new to the AR platform, so I'm sure I will be changing my mind and the gun a lot in the future.

congrats and welcome.. started my first build about a month ago... finished my 2nd last week and planning 3rd.. Be careful.. addictive..
went out today with an old friend and burned off 100 rounds each in ARs about 80 in an AK, plus some pistols and a test shot outta 3006 so I got my trigger itch scratched this am..

i keep trying to persuade friends to get one so I can build for them..  figure if i do that, it will keep me from doing more..

Congrats on taking the plunge...  However, be very very careful.  Once you catch BRD there is no going back!!! I speak from experience, I just completed my 7th build.  I currently own 9 AR's and have plans to expand the family by at least a few more. ...

Enjoy the fun of building and shooting them and welcome the club....

Ended up going with a Palmetto State Armory 16" Mid Length upper with MOE handguards .... I just can't wait for it to get here!

I can already tell that my BRD is going to become expensive.

PSA has been great to me the last few days. BrownSanta has ben here a bunch of times. I will say be patient.
They create a UPS ticket with your order and the email gives a shipdate.
The build actually starts then and they have a lot of Christmas orders. My upper took about 11 days.
5 days faster than a few guys on here. My second order got confusing since I changed up colors mid stream.
I ordered it on the 22nd and emailed a change on the 24th. It shipped today.
They respond to emails and after reading my convoluted change-order, called me to clarify.

Hopefully the UPS moves fast or the holiday/my OCD is going to screw me until next week :/

Luckily I have a ski trip coming up, so I can keep my mind off of it for the next week and a half. After that, I'll be antsy as hell waiting for it to get here.
