I want to hear from fellow members about barrels.  I need to replace mine.  For those of you who have both chrome lined, and unlined, is there really a difference?  I am not worried about cleaning, I actually enjoy cleaning my guns.  I want to know any real difference with performance, reliability, and price.

almost no difference in reliability in real world, and i heard you loose accuracy with chrome lining.

but i like chrome lining.. specially because i could not careless about .5MOA or so.

my gunsmith said no reason to spend more on chrome lined, but i have no personal opinion.

^i heard the same about accuracy as well.

87GN assured me that chrome lined have become every bit as accurate as non-chrome.

As  far as I'm concerned, and until I hear differently, I'll take that to the bank.

jmho, etc, etc....

While it doesn't read like you will will likely shoot out a non-chromed barrel in your lifetime a chrome lined barrel will last just that much longer depending on firing schedule & rate.

Six of one, half dozen of the other for the most part.  I'd say most CL barrels are capable of fine accuracy, certainly minute of human out to 800 yards, but if you doubt that non-lined barrels are INHERENTLY more accurate, look at what the long range bench rest shooters shoot.  You don't seem CL barrels on guns designed from the ground up to shoot tiny little groups where .001 inch or 1x is the difference between win and also ran.  For 99.5% of the people it doesn't make a lick of difference if it is a good chrome-molly CL barrel or a CM non-lined barrel or SS barrel, but if you absolutely want the utmost in accuracy then a good stainless  or unlined CM barrel is the way to go IMO.  And forget about the longevity thing when it comes to CL.  If you care enough about your shooting to want the absolute smallest group possible you will never be shooting your barrel that hot anyway nor will you neglect it to the point that CL would have any benefit.
Serious use work gun, go CL.  Varmint, long range, or target rifle, go SS or CM unlined.

ive heard with chrome lined the accuracy will drop suddenly, while non-chrome slowly drops.

I might add one more comment to those above.
IMO,
If you want the most accurate gun, you might consider SS, and go with a match chamber (Wylde).
If you want the utmost reliability and durability, you might consider CL, and go with a 5.56 NATO chamber.

I went ahead and bought a new barrel from Midway USA.  It is a Remington brand unlined chrome moly barrel.  They shipped it quickly (got it in 3 days).  It installed easily, and shoots great.  I finally got my rifle running!

I think the best one for the money is sportsman guide 99.00 M-4 barrel non chrome but you never wear it out..

Non Chrome-lined barrels tend to be more accurate, they also tend to wear out quicker.

Chrome-lined barrels tend to be not quite as accurate but have longer barrel life. They also clean up better.

A follow-up question since I'm in the barrel shopping part of my build.

Does the amount of twist (1:7,9,12) matter with the chrome lined vs. non regarding the accuracy discussion?

No not in relation to being chrome lined, only with bullet selection does the twist rate come into play.
