New guy here from Maryland, and to AR's. From what I can already see, this site is the place to be if you want to learn anything on AR's. Seems to be lots of useful info, and members with lots of knowledge and willing to help. Glad I can join in.  As usual, I get laid off during the winter months and recently decided that an AR build would be something I'd enjoy, and keep me busy. With being laid off, comes unemployment pay. Not being a whole lot extra after bills, makes it hard to build much of anything, so I'll have to do it 1 piece at a time. First on the list, is the lower. Probably the lower itself, then a lower parts kit afterwards. What I'd like is a spikes, but does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap but good stripped lower? Lots of brands out there so I dont really know whats worth buying, and whats a waste of money. I just know that whatever I buy has to be what I'll be happy with as I wont have any real funds to "rebuy"....And the wife wouldnt be happy LOL. Anyways, glad to be here and nice to meet ya's. Thanks for the help.

Take a look at Palmetto State Armory lowers (and other parts), they have good quality parts for very competitive prices.
During the holidays they usually offer significant sales on their lowers ($49), so keep an eye out.

Thanks!! That price sounds great! I plan to build it all piece by piece, then tax time buy the complete upper. Just get all the small individual parts with my pay, so it wont be so hard on the wallet.

i hope you have more todo than just build a rifle.. it takes like 1 hour at the most to build a rifle (slowly) if you have the parts. :)

i recommend web surfing projects :)

ah.. laugh.. even then.. you got 3 hours worth of joy.

what i end up doing is build it.. shoot it. take it apart..(break something).. change it. buy more crap.. change some more..

LOL..Yeah, I didnt think it would take too long. Me, when doing something, like a project, I'll drag it out forever lol. I'll get the thought to work on it, but wont so I'll still have something to look forward to tomorrow. Ends up taking a very long time. I just figured piece by piece will take awhile when pays are every 2 weeks. Still plan to hopefully buy a complete AR at tax time too.

-surplus ammo & arms, upper rec'r kit                            $169.99

-sportsmans guide barrel                                                $99.99
($89.99) w/buyers club membership

-PSA lower build kit (clasic)                                            $89.99

-Ebay speacil Free Float rails                                         $45.00 - $55.00
(several to choose from w/free shipping)

-Yhm flip up front sight gas block                                    $72.00
(cheaper than dirt)

-A2 muzzle break/flah hider                                            $15.00 - $20.00
(several venders)

-carbine Gas tube                                                          $8.00 - $12.00

SO DEPENDING ON YOUR CHOICES, if you go complete budget your right around $500.00 - $550.00 befor shipping
but you still have to figure in the "Striped Lower" w/FFL Transfer...

of coarse you could knock off about 75 bucks if you leave out the flip up sights and go with a 30.00 low pro or rail gas block and then just add a scope or red dot later...
(in that case your looking at about $450.00 befor shipping and striped lower...)

but this is just a few LOW COST DEALS that i happen to know about you can always find good deals and maybe you might want to put higher end products on your build but just a few tips that i thought you might want to consider if you want to get something built up at budget piece by piece...

hope this helps..
