I'm new to the whole AR building and choosing what I want in a gun. I have a guy building the gun for me so no worries.

What I need to decide is on a complete upper, I looked at the new PSA upper for $429 and then there is a Spikes tactical for $499

PSA: http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/2533.php

Spikes: http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-16-m4-le-upper-556-p-384.html

Is the spikes really worth the extra money?

Also if I look at another upper from Spikes: http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-16-lightweight-le-upper-556-p-467.html what is the difference between the two spikes uppers since they are the same price?

Thank you!, sorry ahead of time for not knowing all of this.

The difference between the two Spike's uppers you posted is the barrel profile.  The first one is an m4 profile barrel and the second is a lightweight barrel.

Comparing the two I think the PSA upper is a better purchase.  I'd only purchase the Spikes if I planned on doing an SBR that was suppressed down the road simply because you can get down to a 10.3" upper and have it threaded by ADCO or someone who can do concentric to bore threading.  The PSA middy will allow you to add a longer handguard  and push a light out further but you'd have to take the FSB down or have a low profile gas block added if you went to something like than 11" freefloat.  A Daniel Defense MFR or Troy TRX 11" would be a perfect addition to that gun.

If you're just going with a 16" gun, get the PSA.

FIFY

ETA:

I'd take the PSA only because I llike the heavier barrel.  I tend to stay away from the M4 profile, I have a DPMS with one but really, why would you need it?  You gonna get a 37mm attachment for it?

No need for the light weight barrel IMHO, I just like the heavier barrels and will probably serve you better.

Between the spikes is the barrel weight that big of a difference? I was also told that the bolt on the spikes upper is a little heavier duty and has an upgraded buffer compared with the PSA. I understand what an M4 barrel was originally used for and no I do not plan on putting a grenade launcher on it.

Do you plan on carrying it around? then get the light profile barrel. if no get whatever.
