So I do believe it is time to take that plunge. I have been juggling the idea between buying a pre-built AR platform or building my own. I have never owned an AR of any kind and although I have plenty of hunting rifles, Pappa needs a new toy...

Originally I was just going to plop down the $700 for the M&P15 Sport but after a little searching and reading, it looks like I could do better to build my own and not lose components. I do like the idea of a M&P15 build or at least a mix n' match with a M&P15 lower so that it is aesthetically pleasing to the camera when pictured next to my pistol. I know, I know, that is a horrible reason to build it that way and I should be shot but bare with me. I've heard the lowers are solid with no real flaws so I see no reason to go with a RRA lower or something to that effect. I will probably go with a RRA Lower Parts Kit though with the two-stage trigger.

Basically what I really need help on is trying to figure out if a Del Ton Upper will fit snugly against the &P15 lower and if the finish is even remotely close. Definitely going with Multi Caliber on this build and I would like to free float the barrel at some point as well.

Any chance anyone has played around with this idea before me?

Matches your handgun... that's a terrible reason to pick a brand...

oh, wait, that's what I did lol.

You cant go wrong with the M&P. Take a look at the M&P ORC if you want prebuilt. sure there are no sights, but 26 bucks for some MBUS's fixes that. Comes with all of the M&P Sport's missing features, and if you are willing to wait, you can find great deals on them. I paid last month 830.00 for mine, and I have seen them a bit lower than that.

To answer your question, I can't. No experience with Del Ton uppers, sorry.

Appreciate the reply anyway. I may have to do that seeing as to how I just spent way too much money on ammo today any how.

It's tough to build an AR-15 for the price of the MP15.  You can find them on sale at academy for $599 a few times a year, but normally $699.  Remeber, there are quite a few tools you need to buy to build.
