I got a new grip to replace my Ergo grip and when I went to put the screw back in on the new, Magpul Moe grip, the screw went cockeyed somehow and cross thread at an angle??  I have put tons of grips on guns....I'm an armorer for my dept for petes sake but I have never cross threaded a grip screw.  Is it as simple as tapping the hole again?  I hope.

Run a 1/4x28 tap in it and use a longer screw since the threads in the beginning of hole will probably be on the large side.

Hve done this several times on engines just make sure you start your tap straight with the original threads go slow and all should be cool

When using the tap try to go from the inside of the receiver where thet good part of the treas are. This will help you to giude the tap in the same angle of the original tread. Use something to lube the tab to get a clean cut and since the receiver is  aluminum you might feel some resistance while cutting the treads.

The best way to fix this is using a non-cutting tap, sometimes called a thread restoring tap.
Most taps will cut and remove metal, these will simply move the displaced metal back into position.
