I'm looking at purchasing a vice block for my next build. I will not be using it much at all so I have a hard time spending $50 on one without a good reason. I see MIDWAY has one for a flat top upper $29 that is made for a padded vice(which I just happen to have). What do you guys know about this product?

I do not see how this part from EGW and Midway will be helpful. I would not mess around and buy the upper vice block and insert from Brownells or Midway. Sure it is a 50.00 purchase but if you crack an upper buy not having it, then what is it worth. Get the correct tools for the job. Makes building that much more fun when it is completed without complications.
Don't skimp, do it right. |

How does that egw block work? It looks like the two slots are for the pivot and takedown lugs. I am assuming that is why the product description says "Padded Vise" Where the flat top is actually against one of the vise jaws and the block holds the base by the lugs. I don't see this as safe for torquing the barrel nut. |

I prefer to have a clam shell type block for barrel nut torquing.
