I just went 13 pages into the Build Yourself forum looking for info on Finishes for an 80% AND non-Anodized uppers. I am considering Duracoat SL.

What are people doing? I have seen and read repeatedly Vader Spades write up. He does EXCELLENT work. I am not leaning towards setting up a home anodizing shop. Simply put I ma not sure how many of these I am going to make and I don't want to spend a bunch of cash on a home anodizing set-up.

That being said i did drop the cash for a vinyl cutter and gonna etch my self....

Links, Pics and info appreciated.

Here's a link that is probably a better place to search than Build It Yourself, though I haven't looked there for what you're looking for.

Refinishing forum

You can also send your lower out to be anodized instead of trying to do it at home:

Victor at U.S. Anodizing is a great guy to work with but they no longer accept finished 80% lowers that do not have a serial number on them.  My plan was to finish mine out and have him anodize them but probably going to try doing it myself now.

so your not looking for a way to anodize, but another way to finish your lowers???

if your just looking for a place to do a finish for you, you can do NP3 or Roguard

ETA: I believe Victor at US Anodizing makes people send their finished 80%'ers through an FFL now

I really want to learn how to Aionidize but I have been using Gunkote and Alumhide on my  builds.....On my 80% i have purchased them already plated so I use paper when claping them down....

I took VaderSpades advice and bought the anodizing kit.  It is easy and comes out nice.

Did the whole thing in HD buckets.

A good alternative to anodizing is Norrell's Moly Resin Finish.  It sprays on using an inexpensive airbrush and is baked in an oven at 300 degrees to cure the finish.  The finished product is nearly as hard as anodizing and is resistant to about every solvent I have tested except epoxy paint stripper.  It's available in is bunch of colors and produces a nice matte finish when you apply the matte texture finishes.  This upper and lower were both done with the matte black.

Okay, so US anodizing is a no go. Fuckers need a SE# and FFL to do my uppers and lowers. Kind of defeats the purpose of an 80% build, doesn't it?

Gonna do my own. Found a YouTube video on De-Anodizing. VERY cool, gonna de-anodize an old A1 Upper and see If I can re-anodize it for my first test.

The I will have a try at the real thing.

Anybody have pics of their anodizing projects?
