Ok Gentlemen, and any ladies that may be out there...

after building that frankin Rifle that i have been peicing togather for about 3-4 months...  Got'er Done..!!!  well i went ahead and built her with the extra furniture i had in house...  soo i will upgrade her later with free float rail and better grip and i still need optics for her but she is put togather and i will be breakin her in this weekend with a range session...

SO NOW....   I AM READY TO START BUILDING MY  "LIGHT WEIGHT" PACK RIFLE....

i have been pondering and pondering on this build for a while now, soooo i have got most of it done in my brain housing group...  but i am going to still need a little advise...

budget for me is always an issue, sooo im always going to consider price point as a deciding factor... but i am also going to try and get some descent gear.... and then i know i might catch some crap for a few choices soo bare with me...

sooo here is what i got planned so far:
-  Plum krazy Lower.. (going to pick that up this week end and already got it on hold)
-  poly upper (have not orderd yet)
-  SMG 16" m4 barrel 1-7 twist (already have) wanted to try maybe a wildcat or the 7.62x40 barrel or the 6.5 PCC or even a 16"  6.5 sporter/grendel..  but im going with the
  5.56 for now
-  PRI Gen III "Carbon Fiber"  7" free float Tube/Rail  (have not bought it yet but i got a guy thats giving me a good deal on a new one)

NOW HERE IS WHERE I NEED THE ADVISE: as far as the BCG goes i was planing on going witht he $109.00 deal from  AimSurplus but i was thinking this is a real nice heavy M16 bolt and i was wondering who would have a real super-light-weight BCG i saw a BCG at ag un show once and i think the guy told me it was a Delton BCG and when i picked up that thing it was real-light and it didnt have any of the extra thick mass at the end of the bolt carrier...  IS THIS RIGHT????  im not familar with the BCG from delton so i dont know how they are but are their bcg's lighter than others???   OR DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT BCG???

Hold on theres more...   i was planning on putting optics on this rifle (just a cheapo) maybe a 2-6 sightmark scope or something of the sort. something light and cheap.  but that leaves me with the descision of back up irons ...   i strongly believe becuase this is going to be a pack rifle with the job of something of a  scout rifle it has to have some type of back up open sights...  so heres is what my question is ???   should i go with a flip up front sight or a low profile gas block and put a fold up front sight one my rail...  if i went with the flip up front sight gasblock then i would be useing the Maytech buis rear flip up sight... if i go with the low profile gas block then i would probably want to go with the magpul front and rear flip ups... just becuase i think that they would be a good light weight option...
sooo i have a brand new maytech already but i dont have any magpul sights to compare weight... and then i think the flip up gas block is still a little heavy but am at an end here and dont know which way i should go...   any comments welcome and any advise would be greatly appreciatied...  and if anybody has these parts laying around that can be wighed to give me some data that would be great...
any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated too... thanks in advance...

JP Enterprises Low Mass Operating System.

I would go with a Clark carbon fiber tube, myself. Unless you're running NV or hanging a flashlight out there, the Clark is a good bit lighter.

The Bushmaster Carbon15 upper does not accept a standard barrel nut.  It does come with a barrel nut that will work with any handguard that uses the standard GI barrel nut, but the threads are different.  Best bet on uppers is a 9mm upper with a standard port door and hole drilled for gas tube.

The lightest BCG available would be the Smith Enterprises Aluminum BC, hasn't been produced in decades though, going to be hard to find.

After that is the PM&T Titanium BC.  Hasn't been produced in several years and not very easy to find.

Then the JP low mass, followed by the Young's lightened BC.

If you do go with a lighter BCG, make sure you use an adjustable gas system.

Most of your weight savings are going to be found in the barrel.  The lightest 16" I know of is the Bushmaster Superlight.  Get that chopped to 14.7 and have a flash suppressor permanently mounted.

I'll second the Clark handguard, it's currently the lightest one on the market.

Personally I'd go with a standard upper receiver.  That or wait for people selling their M&P Sport uppers with no forward assist or dust cover.

I'm not a fan of the plum crazy lowers, but there are guys running them and no issues to date that I have seen, so for a light weight build that would be the one.

Run a Samson 12.37 rail and use Magpul front and rear flip up sights.  Easy to install and fairly light weight.  You can use a chopped FSB and I might even have one available pretty soon that I'd sell cheap.

Have the barrel chopped to 14.5" and run a Extended A2 or a Phantom pinned.

Use a semi-auto BCG.

Use a CAR15 stock.

I suggest you scrap the Plum Crazy idea and look for a used Cav Arms lower in the EE. I have built up two as lightwieght AR's and they run great and are light as well....<><....:)

Shooter_G22, if you are interested, I have a NEW Smith Enterprises aluminum bolt carrier I would be willing to part with. NOT cheap, but reasonable. 3.85 ounces

This is not correct.  The original pro-ordinance upper had a non-standard thread, but after Bushmaster bought them out they changed the upper to use standard threads and take down pin locations.  The BCG that comes in some older Carbon-15 rifles is also about 2oz lighter than a regular BCG, but they are designed to be used with that weird short buffer system, so I don't know if they will work with a regular buffer system.

It is correct.  I have one of the Bushmaster carbon15 uppers.  It's a newer one, has the forward assist and port door.  It will not accept a standard barrel nut.

ETA:  that was bought direct from Bushmaster.
