I want this 9.2'' Yankee Hill Machine free float rail. It's made for a mid length gas system. I'm running a standard carbine length spikes complete upper, with the fixed A2 front sight post. Would it be a possible to grind down the sight post/ buy a new one and install this?

You will need to remove the sight and get a low profile gas block.  You will also need to remove the original barrel nut and delta pack since the free float comes with it's own barrel nut.. If you are not sure about how to do it then have a gunsmith do it, or if you want to do it yourself then you can checkout  Brownells and Midway USA, they both have how to video's online on how to do this project.

Replace the FSB with a low profile.  Then you have an extra part that MUST be turned into another rifle.

The mid rail will cover the GB completely so you will probably want the endcap if you dont already have it.

When complete your extra parts will include the barrel nut, and FSB.

I've heard mixed things about the low profile gbs that they sell. They are held on by screws. Is there really an issue with that, vs the tapered pins? (i.e isnt grinding a more reliable hold than buying the aftermarket low profile?) I guess the low profile would be easier, but how exactly are they attached to the barrel? Is it literally just tightened down with screws? I was watching this video I found on M4C. I plan on using the gun for hunting varmits, etc.. As to say I'm using it more for a working rifle.
