It's almost a shame to call this the first build since I have almost completely torn the other AR-15 apart to see how it goes back together. However, this is the first real build. Pretty simple to get three (3) stripped lowers. I found a local FFL that works for $20 a weapon - Super. I ordered some Surplus lowers from AIM Surplus when they got back in stock. Nice looking lower receiver, and I got a LPK with Magpul MOE hand guard and stock combo from Palmetto State Armory. Both companies were awesome to work with, and quite frankly it was almost the cheapest place to get all the parts or the lower.
Anyway, here is the picture of the second child that wasn't adopted. This is the first day home!
After ordering the LPK, I promptly sorted the springs, detents, trigger parts, etc. The parts picture posted in here helped a ton. I just laid the parts out exactly like the picture was. I then watched the Brownell videos on assembly and then repeated the practice. Took 45 minutes total, but I can easily put the LPK and collapsible stock together in 20 minutes. I have two more times to practice. Anyway, here is what 45 minutes of playing results in - My new child with a bathing suit on!
I have a picture of the old rifle side by side with the new below. I am still contemplating building the new build just like my other little friend. I have twin boys, (7 yrs old), and I would love for them to have a rifle like Daddy when they can learn to lay off the 22LR rapid fire they do. I am actually thinking about a heavy barrel and free float tube for a little more accuracy. Hrmmm - We'll see. I have till next month before I order the upper receiver, UPK, BCG, and barrel. I do know that the third lower will be a Varmint type rifle with a 20” barrel. Why not?
