DPMS

Any other suggestions? I suggested the DPMS to my buddy as I have no first hand experience with the Del-Ton...

I bought a DPMS for my first build. If i had known then what i do now i would have bought a BCM 16" upper and bcg for the extra $130.  Look a little more. You can find great weapons for almost thesame price. That being said i have no qualms about my DPMS at all.

What are you trying to do with it? If only for sport/fun I would go DTI (less $). If competition was in mind then DPMS (more $). I have both and they will both shoot sub-moa at 100 yds. When you move out past 400 yds is when I notice a difference.

Looking at the link, Post-ban?

He is only going to use it for home defense, and maybe 200 yrd shooting...nothing more really...

Yes, it's post-ban, as far as I'm aware, post-ban should be perfectly fine in Illinois, as long as you don't live in Chicago (or Cook County) if someone knows something different please school me...

I have 2 DPMS uppers and 2 Del-tons.

My suggestion, if he is dead set on these two as his choices, then I would suggest Del-ton.  Reason why I say this, (between my 4 uppers), the Del-ton's seem to accept steel better (consistently eats Silver Bear 55 and 62 soft or hp, no matter).  My DPMS ones, casings seem to stick a lot no matter how wet or how many rds I have through them (both have over 600+rds through each).  Another thing I have found is the fit between upper & lowers.  Other non DPMS or non Del-ton lowers, my Del-ton uppers seem to fit tighter (no slop) across a larger variety of my non Del-ton lowers.  Now my DPMS uppers, combined with any of my DPMS lowers, they are TIGHT, just not with the other lowers I have.  Keep in mind, gap does not negatively affect function - but for some individuals, any noticeable gap can be a concern.

So net -
1) If he will be plinking a lot, and wants more options beyond just brass (ie steel) = Del-ton
2) If he will be concerned with fit or any gap between upper/lower = Del-ton.

YMMV!!! Just my personal experiences.

Honestly, spend a bit more for a BCM, or maybe a used LMT. I have owned cheap uppers, and had upper/lower fit issues, the finish isn't very good sometimes, quality varies too much.

Don't think it is even close.  DPMS.

This is pretty much the exact question I'm wonderin' myself.  My brother and I are both working on our first AR builds - planning on using PC C-15 lowers (Polymer).  Price is definitely a factor - if I could find a decent upper/lower for less, I'd definitely consider it.  But as it is, I think DPMS/Del-Ton are the best options in my range.  I had pretty much decided on Del-Ton 99% (they seem like a good company), but there's a 6 week waiting period now, so that changes things a little heh

I have quite a few AR's (BRD). Out of the bunch I have 2 Del-ton uppers, 1- 7" and 1- 14.5". Both shoot nice. 1- DPMS, it is a 7.62 and it shoots fantastic. Just wondering, why did you choose poly lowers? Check JSE Surplus. They had some DTI kits in stock yesterday. It is tax season so, almost everybody is out of stock. JSE seems to get them back in stock the fastest. They have a lot of 7" in stock right now My last order was on Monday and I got it today.

I'd go with Del-Ton, even with the wait.

I've assembled 6 Del Tons in the last 6 months. All are shooters. My choice is Del Ton. Call Del Ton before ordering to see what is in stock. If they are way behind on their orders check with Cold Hand Arms. Good service there too. I plan on carrying Del Ton products in my new store this summer.
