I'm installing a Larue 11" FF handguard on 16" gov't profile middy barrel.  I shaved my gas block to fit but it needs more shaving on the bottoms to fit through the opening in the FF tube.  I boogered up the taper pins removing them, and had to order new ones.  New ones are too big for the holes, so now I'm waiting on a taper reamer.  Since the bottom of the shaved gas block barely fits, it looks as though the taper pins may protrude too far out to fit though the inside of the FF tube, and I can't check since I'm waiting on the reamer.  If the taper pins do indeed stick out too far too fit, what is the preferred method to deal with this?  Should I just grind down the ends and touch up paint, or should I take dremel to inside of FF tube to open up the opening?  Any suggestions and/or experience would be appreciated.

Don't mess with the FF tube ... the GB and and taper pins will be way cheaper to replace if you mess up or don't like it ... just make sure the GB is really good and tight before grinding the pins down.

Sounds like with the money and effort your spending on this shaved GB you could have just gotten yourself a quality low-pro GB that would have fit right out of the box .. just sayin.

Two thing to consider here:
Taper pins are way less costly than a Larue rail is.  And second, an additional lowprofile gas block wouldn't be pinned in place and wouldn't just fit right out of the box.  The setscrews might run into where the taper pins go and not thread appropriately.  A pinned gas block is the most secure method of doing so and I'd rather make taper pins fit then add another gas block to the assembly.  Good luck with your build!  Pics of this goodness when you're finished.

My DD clamp on low pro fit perfectly under my 12" Larue rail right out of the box ... think I paid 50.00 dollars for it.
