| If I am using a new barrel, new bolt and new upper. Do I need to headspace before putting it together? |
|
I would have said "no problem" no matter what less than six months ago. Then I read several different people's accounts of having factory new bolts from Company A not actually produce safe headspace with factory new barrels from Company B. It can't hurt to get the combination checked out; any reasonably equipped gunsmith should have the right gauges. I had my first build checked by the 'smith at McBride's in Austin-they humored me, knowing that I had both a GI bolt and GI barrel. But if your bolt, barrel, or both came from some non-military source, I'd get them checked.
Some vendors that sponsor ARFCOM proudly state that their products are MIL-SPEC; I'd pretty much trust a Bravo Company bolt to work with a MIL-SPEC barrel and vice versa. |
| Again usually on a new parts build you dont have to headspace but if you want to be absoluetly safe and sure use one.... I dont head space new parts and yes I have only built 7 guns and on my 8th so I guess Im not an expert but any time I use or check a used gun I always check the headspace since I know they have worn somewhat....... Buts its you call |
