I am building a 14.5" Middy so, the FH has to be perm attached, before I make my order I want to be sure about my selection. I am trying to decide if I want to order and upper group with an low profile gas block and FF handguard that covers it, I really like the looks of it. I have seen many middy builds on here that still have the A2 original front sight on them. My question is, is there a specific reason why the majority of people keep the A2 front sight? Here is my theory on the subject, for example you are in a gunfight or shootout and your optics i.e. aimpoint, EoTech etc. break or go down. Now you need to resort to your BUIS, it would be much more efficient for you to just flip up the rear and be GTG rather than having to also reach forward and flip up another set of sights, one step is quicker than two! Please correct me if my theory may be wrong but, that would be the only reason for me to keep my OE front sight. What are your opinions and experiences with them? I may be overthinking it but I just want to be sure of what I want before I order the upper with the FH perm attached. Thanks SD79

All of my ARs have the A2 fs except for the 7.5" & 8.5" SBRs. I prefer the regular front sight and base, not for any tactical reasons, but because they are solid, simpler and cheaper (FOR ME and IMHO). The also don't bother me nor interfere that much with my optics. Additionally, on my longer-than-8.5" barrels I don't host any extended handguards or special setups.

i find the carbine hanguard short, so i use low pro blocks and rifle length handguards.

Possible reasons that many have OEM front sights:
1.) cheapest route to go
2.) often the default configuration
3.) that sight's not going anywhere without the rest of the gun

I used the FSB because one of the purposes of my rifle was SHTF and there is no other front sight out there that is as strong.  you don’t have to worry about it breaking if you drop the gun or bang it around.
