an action block to put an barrel on an upper?  I plan on putting a 6.5 Grendel together and am wondering if I need to get one for just this one build.

1.) Check your hometown forum to see if someone can let you use one
2.) They don't cost much and you can sell it when you're done
3.) They're cheaper than an upper receiver

Do you have a table vise to use?

I don't see how you can replace a barrel without marring the hell out of an upper.  I know people have done it with just barrel blocks but an action block is well worth it, just for your sanity.

This is what I used.  Held up with no problems.

Highly recommended that you have either barrel blocks or an action block.

ive assembled with wooden blocks ive pieced together...and with a receiver block.

Both went together no problems really.... torqued to spec and no bending or damage to the upper....

But now that i have an actual receiver block i wouldn't use wood again if you paid me to.

Buy a block... borrow a block... seriously.
