I am building my first AR and have completed my lower.  I bought my stripped upper from PSA, but I'm not sure where to go from here.  I saw lower build kits everywhere.  It seems you have to buy all the upper parts individually.  The problem, is that I don't know what parts to buy.  Can anyone post an upper parts list for me?

Also, what parts will give me the best value?

Thanks

so you want to buy all the tools needed or do you have them all ready? if not you can find great deals on complete uppers here on the EE. unless you plan on building  more, in the future?

if you are building a regular forearmed upper.......

upper
delta ring assembly
barrel nut
barrel
gas tube
roll pin for gas tube
front sight base(FSB)
correct sized forearm set
and the complete bolt control group(BCG)

all sized up for a carbine, midlength or rifle gas system.

If he bought a truly stripped upper, he'll also need a forward assist/FA spring/FA roll pin.

Just to clarify for the OP, you will need the charging handle as part of the complete BCG.

Brownells sells upper parts kits.  They offer them made by a few different manufacturers.  I am sure they are cheaper than buying each piece on its own.

so to recap:

upper receiver
delta ring assembly
hand guard
barrel nut
barrel
gas tube
roll pin for gas tube
front sight base (FSB)
complete bolt carrier group(BCG) (don't forget charging handle)
forward assist assembly (FA)
dust cover assembly
muzzle device

also, you can lose the delta ring if you go with a free float handguard.  finally don't forget armorer's tool (barrel nut wrench), the upper receiver vice block & of course bench vice.   and here's a good resource:  http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

I have some parts you'd need if you were intersted.  handguards, complete delta ring and barrel nut, extra parts from a build I'm not going to do.
