i have tried the search function and its not cooperating with me. keep getting IE errors. Sorry if this has been asked before but i cant find it.

I am looking to do a full custom build and am looking for a company to do a matched upper/lower receiver set in billet, although forged is fine as well. also looking to have my own engravings and custom serial numbers. possibly registered as a SBR as well. having the ability to get one in 5.56 and 7.62 NATO would be great.

i am looking to do my own full custom builds to my specs with the engravings and serial number to be personalized. planning these builds as graduation presents to myself and my wife from college.

i did find Fidelis Arms online and shot them an email over a month ago with no response. i also remember seeing that they dont do class 3 engravings anymore but couldnt find the same last time i looked at their site. maybe i am misremembering?

I have a thread on here about 100% custom s/n's. To date I can not find anyone other then Fidelis Arms that will offer the 1005 custom s/n. I have found a few local places that will offer semi-custom... the first few characters are there shop info then I get the rest of the s/n.

I will caution you about Fidelis. I paid them for a lower and was told it would take 6-9 weeks to receive. After 8 weeks I called to follow up and see if we were on schedule. I was told that there CNC went down and they were bringing one if from out of state, and that they were sending an e-mail out to all outstanding orders advising of the problem. I never received the e-mail.

I waited a few weeks and followed up again, they told me they received the CNC but it would be about 1 week to get it programmed. I waited a few more weeks and called to see were the project stood. I was told it was in line and almost being done. Fast forward 2 more weeks, I call again and am told it just finished and was going out to anodizing....great! At this point I found out that my FFL was going out of business the next day to I let fidelis know of my problem and asked them to hold onto the lower until I found a new FFl....that only took a few days before they received the FFL.

I asked for the tracking number when they mailed it, they said no problem. I waited a few days and contacted them again, and was again told it was no problem and that they were looking it up and would mail it to me. I contacted my FFL a few days later, about 1.5 to 2 weeks after they said they mailed it, and he did not have it. At this point I was a tired of the lip service with nothing to show. The shop voice mail had been full for 2 months and I was at this point dealing directly with Robert, the ceo. I asked again  about the tracking number but never got a reply back to the voice mail I left. At this point, I had nothing to loose and left Robert another voice mail stating that I was to get the lower, a refund with interested(he had my money for about 16 to 17 weeks) or I was getting a lawyer and filing fraud charges with the local police. Robert told me to never contact him again and only to call the shop number....funny due to it being full all the time. A few days later he e-mailed me asking which FFL they were sending the lower to, I replied with the FFL info and asked if this meant they had not mailed the lower a few weeks earlier like they said they did. I did not get a response from him but a day or two later his east cost rep, Chris, e-mailed me saying he looked into it and that my lower had not been started yet. He stated that they had another customer with a similar name and that they were giving me updates on his project.....something to this day I do not believe. They offer to rush it but, did not give me a time frame, or i could get a refund. I send a counter offer of asking for the lower in hand in 1.5 weeks.... neither Chris nor Robert replied back. I sent another reply a few days later stating I wanted the refund.

This is were it really got good. I had multiple conversation with Robert were he told me the check was cut and in the mail, I never got it..... called back and said he was sending another one.....never got it. I do believe he never sent it. I had to go to the credit card company and file a dispute to get my money back.

To summarize, they had my money for 18 weeks for a project they said would only take 6 to 9 weeks, never built my lower and lied to me about its status, did not return about 75% of the voice mails I left and then did not return my money to me they offered a refund.

I know of one other member on this board that went through the same thing as me around the same time as we were in constant contact updating each other on progress made.  I think it is sad that a shop can not contact its customers when they have a problem, can not return voice mails and that the sales reps don't have the access code to access voice mail while on the road(chris told me this when i asked why i could not leave a message for 2 weeks at one point). That was my experience, YMMV.

Please post if you find a shop that will do the custom s/n's. I don't need matching upper and lowers for my project, just the s/n.

ETA: here is my thread, it has some info you might find helpful. s/n thread

Arfcom is full knowledge and friendly people. What you seek is an 80% lower. However 7.62 "NATO" will require an ar10 type lower I beleve. Please do take the time  to really learn all the terms and limitations of the ar and it's brothers before you dive head first in to an all out tacticool rifle.

i appreciate the info so far.

after the note saying that fideis only accepts emails at this time and please be patient, i figured it was a losing battle.

i too have been looking into the 80% lowers. this is looking like the direction i may go if i cant find something else.

The saying that sticks in my head is " if you want something done right do it yourself " with an 80% lower you can name it whatever you want! I if I had a mill or drill press I'd never buy a made lower again..... Dear Santa!?!

I am leaning in the 80% direction myself.
I don't have a drill press....yet but, I do have access to one.

If you want interchangeable calibers from 5.56 and 7.62x51, you need a SCAR or the multi caliber receiver from MGI Hydra.Otherwise, the cartridge lengths are not compatible.

Specify all the parts and price shop - I imagine you will find someone who can assemble and ship both guns for the same money. They get serious discounts buying parts in volume, they pass the savings along with labor and still make money. I would not be surprised to see lead times on the anodizer well past graduation because finishing two 80% lowers had to wait while projects and term papers were being written.

Budget and  time plan will show what you can really do.

I've been working on my first AR and have been reading this site a lot lately. It's been a big help.

I got a lower from JD Machine Tech. They did a custom serial number for a additional $25 and said they could do a custom logo but that would be expensive. They did request the serial number have letters in it so it doesn't mess up their numbering sequence.

Thanks. I looked over the site but could not find pricing, what is the cost of the lower before the custom s/n?

I just got off the phone with Eric from JD Machining.
They told me the stripped lower is $129 and that they can accommodate a custom 11 character s/n....and can squeeze one more character if they have to but, the custom s/n runs an extra $50.

Fidelis Arms is a joke. I have never heard of anyone having a happy ending with them.

Not sure why they are charging more now for the custom number. I was a walk in though I don't know why that would matter.

+1

Fidelis never had their own machines in house. They used other shops to make their stuff.

I know people that are out several thousand from these guys.
