| If I decide to build my own Which part should I start with? |
|
depends on your budget. and what you are building.
I would say buy the more expensive parts first. Just to take the plunge and do it. other than that as the above poster said might as well buy your lower as soon as possible.. its the ony part that requires and FFL.. might as well get that out of the way. |

The barrel has nothing to do with the lower. Most guys start with a stripped lower reciever and go from there. the barrel has nothing to do with the lower... but i agree with Gator in that the barrel makes or breaks a rifle... and does in a sense dictate your build... Your not going to buy a nice SS 18" barrel and then config your rifle as you would a 14.5 door kicker. |

Get a lower first. Then probably a lower parts kit (lpk), and a stock. Pick an upper. Install upper. Profit. +1 Lower LPK and reciever extension parts first. Then Upper, Stock, Mags and some form of (iron)Sights and a Sling. Buy lots of Ammo. |

Agreed.
It all depends on the barrel length configuration that YOU want. Everything else is secondary really. Obviously if you want an M4gery you're not gonna go buy a 20" barrel and spend even more money having it cut down and profiled. That's just a waste of time and more importantly, Money. Figure out a basic plan and build from there. Good luck! Ruckus |

I agree with all this!
I started as most with a upper/lower & a lpk. The idea of a barrel 1st has a GREAT reason. With a lower, you soon have a lower everything, and its as easy if you feel the need to drop on a upper 1/2 and be done with it. Thats where my upper comes into play...even if I do drop on a upper 1/2, I still have the matching upper for another build,.....in this time... If I started with the barrel, I would be watching tv through it, tell it was complete!... A mag and a box of ammo is a cheap start too. |

I bought a .50 Beowulf that way. Bought a bunch of ammo and mags kind of like a commitment that forced me to buy the upper |

If I decide to build my own Which part should I start with? Did you read the warning first? You know the part about "this shit is addictive and can ruin your.... Congrats... I'd like to hear ya in a year or two when, instead of buying milk and bread for the kids or paying for your car insurance, you ordered another fluted barrel from... After one, you'll build another with a different barrel or mission... Before long, you'll rationalize that you have an olive drab, but not a foliage green so you'll order another lower...How about tan? You've been warned.. Congrats.. Welcome to the club... |

Doooo it!!!! Get a lower. You'll have the *firearm* part, and your committed.
Feels exciting to immediately or soon there after drop in some parts, tube and stock and have a complete lower, feels like progress but, Work out the function/purpose of the rifle drop $$ on a barrel FTW!!!!!! |
| The way to start is get your lower frist because you need permission for that one..... then everything else on the upper.... What happens if you build a complete upper and dont pass the permit part and you have a full upper without being able to get the lower.....Unless you do as Im learning now and buy a 80% lower and build and machine yourself.. Which I wouldnt reccommend for your frist build. |
| Well, sounding like an echo here, but I was in your spot a few weeks back. The lower is the 'toughest' part for me to get since it needs to go through an FFL...a bit annoying in my area, but do-able. After that, it's a matter of figuring out what you want and pricing it all out...lots of interesting packages and combinations out there, and various shipping rates, so that alone can drive you nuts trying to optimize towards what you think you want. And that will probably change as soon as its in your hands anyway from what I hear! |

I need a clean up on aile 4 please...

Oh yea, then you think about barrel length. |
