I had a couple quick questions about a High Standard (HSA?) flat-top upper purchased from Brownells earlier this month:

High Standard flat top upper at Brownell's

I needed a flat top upper WITHOUT M4 feed ramp cuts (rare nowadays) and this seemed like one of the more economical options.  Contrary to the listing on Brownells, mine DID have the "T" marks on the top rail.  They were filled white, too.  So it should match my Spike's lower nicely (red/white color filled around the selector from what I've been told). Upper/lower supposed to be a forged from 7075 T6, so should be nice and hard.

-Anyone know who mills these for High Stangdard?  I see an really OLD thread mentioning CMT?  It actually looks (machining-wise) really very nice and fits my current Colt lower like a glove.  No excessive wobble.  No blemishes or dings that I can see.   There's a sqare symbol just behind the brass deflector.  A little bit behind that, under the charging handle, a squared-off "8"... or maybe two small squares on top of each other?

-Finish:  It's a hair darker than my 10-year-old Colt lower.  Once (my lower) was cleaned up and hit with a siliconcloth (It sits in a rack in my work car & gets dry), the difference is inperceptible.  The type of finish is questionable, though.  High Standard & Brownells both suggest anodized black.  From the looks of it, I'd guess some type of brushed on/baked finish.  The interior part of the reciever wall, just behind the chamber, has a section about the size/opposite of the ejection port where it looks to be a medium gray color.  Not black as the rest of the part.  Curious what thats about.  Incomplete black finish on the part?  Some other type of gray-colored finish inside the chamber up front?  Curious if anyone else has seen this or has a clue.  It's the one aspect of this upper that has me worndering if everything is as-designed.

Sort of a moot point, now.

I've decided to send the upper back to Brownell's.  Too much bothering me now.  My doubts/question won't get any better over time.

Combined with the fact that a new (non-blem) LAR upper is only $92 from the manufacturer.  Gotta go LAR upper/Spikes lower.
