Just started to put together my first lower.  RRA with a RRA LPK.  Was going awesome and very easy until I went to put on the pistol grip.   The screw would only thread a little past halfway into the hole.    Thought it might have been the screw, so I took the Magpul grip I had ordered for another AR and tried to install it using the supplied screw, again would only thread a little past halfway.
Is it ok to get a shorter screw to install the grip?  I know the screw is a 1/4 28.
I'm just worried about the grip staying secure with a shorter grip screw.
Thanks.

Odd, what brand lower is this?  You could run a tap through it just to make sure the threads are clean.

Rock River lower.   I thought of running a tap through it, just want to make sure I don't damage the threads.
I tried both pistol grip screws on a Rguns lower I have, and the screws went in perfect.  So maybe the threads do just need to be cleaned up.

Is it a MagPul grip your installing?

My MagPul grip had a big 'ol dab of blue loctite on it that created problems (wouldn't screw in past the dab);  a few strokes with some 600 grit sandpaper to knock the "excess" off and it screwed in just fine.

Thanks for the help guys, I tried cleaning off the locktite on the Magpul screw, still didn't thread all the way in.
So I took the other suggestion and ran a tap through the screw hole and cleaned up the threads.  That worked, must have had a burr or something causing the screw to stop.
Thanks everyone for the help.  I really appreciate it.
