As I wait for my Dissy barrel to accompany my upper receiver and BCG for my new build, I've been looking at stocks.

I really want to go fixed for this one. Seems like an A1 length is a better fit for me, but the difference (5/8" right?) isn't that significant, so I'd take what the best deal was. My main question is:

Should I be using a rifle buffer in the setup (16" barrel with mid-length gas), or would it be better to use a carbine buffer? Also, is this even a good idea? I like the better stability, and, while the cheekweld will be missed, I don't need the ability to change position (as well as the price of assembling one being ludicrous compared to fixed stocks –– the price of a whole rifle stock assembly is about the same price as just a collapsible stock body by itself).

I plan on this being rather "KISS" –– MOE rifle length handguards (when they come out) and a carry handle or fixed BUIS. Likely no optics.

Thoughts?

Rifle buffer with rifle-length buffer tube, carbine buffer with carbine-length buffer tube (as one would use with a collapsible stock).
An A1 or A2 stock requires a rifle-length buffer tube.
So there you go.

Ok, thanks.

I wasn't sure if the rifle buffer had some difference in mass or anything that suits it better for the rifle gas system that would limit its effectiveness in a midlength system.

I guess I'll see what I can find...

I have 3 carbine gas guns, two on rifle extensions and one on a carbine extension. The rifle length extension guns are noticeably softer shooting, all function flawlessly.

Been using A1 stocks for years on my Bushmaster Dissies (Have 2).  Never had an issue with the rifle buffer and the carbine gas tube.

+1 for the A1 set up. Built one for my sister, 16"barrel, mid length gas. runs flawlessly and she has about 2500 rounds through it.

All the heavier carbine buffers increase weight to get close to a rifle buffer. Your rifle will be fine.
