A little background on myself... I am from Oklahoma (the reason I don't write "good"). I am currently a mechanical engineering student (another reason I don't write "good").My wife and I shoot for recreation and train for self defense. We belong to USSA here in Tulsa (great gun club!), and plan on taking multiple courses through them.
For the past year or so I have been following the forums, reading posts and random searching. I took the leap and started building my first Ar-15 earlier this year. I have since completed the build and have put around 400 to 500 rounds through it. I thought I would share my experience with my build and show some results... Specs Spikes Tactical lower Timberwolf Tactical SS LPK Magpul OD Furniture BCM 16" Mid-Length YHM 12" Diamond Rail Magpul MBUS Bushnell TRS micro with UTG Mount (not in photo, have yet to test this) Magpul Sling Plate Magpul BAD lever Here is a few steps into the build. http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/1887/spikesar15.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/237/spikesar153.jpg Completed build minus the red dot http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/544/img0788d.jpg http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5356/img0796rf.jpg Over all I have enjoyed the rifle. The only thing I regret buying and putting in this rifle is the Timberwolf Tactical LPK. The very first time I took it out the trigger would no reset. I knew exactly what the problem was. Not knowing a lot about the trigger, I did some research previously and heard of problems with the disconnecter having to much material on it after machining. Frustrated with this I brought it home to my workshop. I buffed the disconnecter with 2000 grit (wet) sandpaper. This fixed the disconnecter problem. The rifle ran flawlessly for around 300 rounds. Then the next problem with this LPK crept up. The hammer pin walked out causing the rifle to double while bench shooting. This was remedied by installing KNS GEN 2 pins. I have not double checked, but I have a good feeling it is from the pins being out of spec. Unfortunately the LPK purchase was on a whim at my local gun shop and was told it was a good product. Never again. I will be buying a reputable mil spec trigger from now on. Target roughly 50 meters, I have another at 100 meters that had surprisingly similar grouping (I'll post this one later) With Magpul MBUS, Bench and gun case for support. http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4619/img0763i.jpg Check out my some shooting action.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuaYSIimO4Q Sorry for the long post, but I figured I had to put it out there any way. P.S. AR15.com rocks. |
