I am planning a SBR build and have a couple questions.  I pretty much have the lower taken care of.  I have never really worked on an upper before.  I plan on going with a 10.5" LMT upper receiver.  I want to remove the FSB.  I want to replace it with a low profile gas block so I can install a 9" Troy or VTAC Extreme Battle Rail.  How hard would it be to remove and replace the gas block?  Like I said I'm no gunsmith but I believe I could swap it out.  Any words of wisdom or advice?  Thanks again.

PS I looked through the assembly/disassembly guides it didn't look to bad but again I'm no gunsmith.

Just did that. Removed a bushmaster sight and replaced it with a YHM gas block rail. It's easy EXCEPT you will need the right tools to knock out the taper pins. One a sturdy vise, two a sturdy punch, and three a big hammer. DON"T use a straight pin punch to start the pressed in taper pin, you'll bend it.(guess why I know this) I used a large tapered nail set punch with a slight concave tip. You don't have to drive it through just break it loose then use the straight pin punch. The pins are pressed in and are very tight( a press would work if you have one) drive them out from left to right. Support the barrel and sight with the vise, punch out the gas tube pin(small pin punch) then grab your punch and big hammer and give it a good wack on the left side and it should pop out

It's not difficult. Just needs good whacks to to the FSB pins. LMT uses straight pins and not taper pins.

BUT, I think it would be easier and cheaper to buy a stripped 10.5" barrel, rail, and upper receiver to assemble together than to break down the LMT upper.

A complete LMT upper runs for what? $485? Out of it, you need the upper receiver and barrel for your build.

Bravo company sells a 11.5" barrel for $230 + upper receiver for $100. PK firearms has a DD 10.3" barrel for $235.

Grant mentioned a DD build, instead of the LMT.
