I'm hoping y'all can help me out here.  I'm pretty new to EBR's, and in the process of swapping the receiver on my Bushmaster A-2 H-BAR over to a flat top.  The rifle in question is a post-ban configuration.  I was wondering if I need one with. M-4 feed ramps, or if I need to disregard that thought?   I was also wondering what other miscellaneous pieces parts I may need?   My buddy has a wrench he could borrow me.  I've been told that I should consider a receiver/ vise block, but I've also been told the bbl. should only be torqued to about 30 lbs., which hardly seems enough to tweak a receiver? FWIW, I'm looking at an assembled upper from Bravo Company.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to see my rifle for another several weeks, due to being at work, but hopefully I can at least gather necessary parts.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

Whether or not you need an upper with M4 ramps depends upon whether your barrel has them. Figure that out & you'll have your answer. However, if your barrel has the cuts you don't necessarily have to have an upper with the cuts. You need an upper receiver block or clam shell, torque wrench, barrel nut wrench/multi-tool, bench vice nicely secured to a stable platform, moly grease & a punch to remove your gas tube roll pin & to reinstall it.

The torque spec is 30 - 80 ft lbs. You stop wherever the nut is aligned for the gas tube. 80 ft lbs is definitely enough to make the receiver cry for its mommy if you don't cuddle it.

Hmmm.....30-80 lbs. leaves alot of room for forgiveness on the TQ wrench. Maybe a geriatrics and gorillas could fuck that up, or perhaps someone that has never used a torque wrench, but....  I'll get the receiver clam shell thingie to be on the safe side.

Trying to figure out if they were doing the M-4 feedramps back when the rifle was made is kinda part of my challenge when I'm starting this project from a thousand miles away.  My buddy (original owner) will be flying up today, so I'll get 'im on the radio ask him what year he bought it.  Maybe that'll help me tune in to whether BM was using M-4 feedramps at the time.

thanks for all the help thus far!
