I am getting ready to start my first build and am looking for some advice.  I am starting with a stripped upper and lower and  I want to go with a piston upper.  I have read all good things about the Adams Arms kit, any suggestions as to a good barrel to use for this?  Budget is a little concern but not the main one.  Looking at an 18-20" with a 1x7 or 1x9 twist rate.

IMHO I was swayed by the appeal in my first build so I have to ask... why a piston system?

I got hooked on the cooler and cleaner running advantages.  After many discussions here as to the original DI design and proven performance, I saw the light not to mention also saved a lot of money.

If I had to much money I would add one piston to the inventory just to have one.  Shot one at a local shot show and that is all I needed.

If budget is a concern, I would think twice about paying 300 bones for a piston kit. However, if you're sold on that, get one of BCM's stripped uppers for ~$87 and then a Spike's stripped lower from Brownell's for about the same amount. As for a bbl? I'd go with something that is 1:7 twist. It will stabilize everything from 55gr-77 (and even beyond that). I'd for sure recommend a Wylde chamber (5.56 at least). Frank White at Compass Lake Engineering is cutting some of the finest bbls I know of. Check him out.

Thanks for the thoughts, I had a POF in the past and I really like the piston vs another DI that I had before that.
The 1x7 was the way I was thinking so it would be good with the heavier bullets.

It's good with the smaller bullets too!
