What gives ? Can anyone tell me about them. Am looking at the new edition of Shotgun News and Blackthorne has a full page ad.

Lightweight & HBAR  A3 carbine kits = $409

A3 Dissipator = $439

I'm asking because I know nothing about this company and have a stripped lower just sitting.

Send me the money you were going to spend on a Blacktorne kit, I'll kick you in the balls and we'll call it a day.

Thats about the same feeling  you'll get buying one of their kits. Their operation is very shoddy. They've been known to produce numerous unsafe firearms and occasionally produce nothing at all. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

Check out Del-Ton and J&T Distributing if you are looking for a lesser expensive kit. Both of these companies are GTG.

ETA: I didn't know it was Tuesday already???

A friend of mine wanted to buy one of their pistol kits.  I tried to talk him out of it, but he was blinded by the price.  I need to call him and see how it worked out for him.

Use the Search feature above. Enter "blackthorne" into the subject box and select "AR15 community" in that box. Read up––the reviews aren't favorable for Blackthorne.

Well who wants a kick to the nut sack ... Thanks for the scoop. I'll pass.

Go with Del-ton. I have an upper and its GTG. You can buy a full del-ton rifle with Magpul MOE furniture complete for $699 at a shop here. Spend a few more dollars and you won't have to buy your AR twice.

Spikes tactical M4 LE for $799 as well.

Or CDNN deal on Smith and Wesson M&P's for $599 after rebate.

Any of those would give you a perfectly serviceable AR.

Yeah, sad to say but you can spend an additional $300 and get 10 times the rifle. I had read opinions on this company for years but had never run into one until about 3 months ago. The owner had several problems with it, FTF and FTE. It had virtually every little problem you read about tied up in one gun. Loose gas key, weak extractor spring, terrible finish, upper pin holes on the opposite extreme of the lower yet once you got the pins in loose as a goose, canted front sight block, deep machine grooves in the chamber and the list goes on. He had tried to get 50 rounds down range before he had me look at it. I was able to get it into a usable condition but he would never be happy with it. I told him to disclose everything he knew to anyone looking at it, sell it for a $100 less than he had into it and be done with it. He found a buyer within a week, worked with the guy. They went out and shot it and it apparently worked well enough for the guy to buy it. He claimed to have told the buyer  everything, I vaguely know the buyer also, I hope I don't see it again. You've been counseled wisely in this thread.

Blackthorne=Vulcan=Hesse. When a company has changed it's name multiple times over the course of a few years in order to escape it's own shitty reputation, there is a problem. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you they bought a Blackthorne kit and love it. Just know that if you get something from them and have an issue, you're probably screwed. Pay a little more and buy from a reputable company that will back up their product, and has had the same name for more than 2 years.

these kits are not worth your time.  for the 5 or 6 people here that have bought them and been satisfied there are a few thousand that will point you far away from them.  del ton and jt have been mentioned and are very good kits for the money.

i've only had one experience with one of these products, and it was a hesse carbon upper/lower.  the upper was so loose to the lower it made a loud "clack" noise when moving side to side with it, and i got punched in the nose by the charging handle on the first shot because the handle detent where the latch catches was rounded instead of squared.  not cool.

a charging handle to the nose is quite disconcerting, though not overly painful.

Good morning Evilriflefan, all.

I've been keeping a journal of all the "boutique" brand disappointments and failures down in the Troubleshooting forum and over in the Industry forum.

You'd be surprised and I'd probably get booted.

Buy what you want but always stay safe and happy shooting.

probably not, the majority of complaints about boutique brands (assuming you mean guns like colt) are stupid finish problems.

post your information, you won't get booted for telling the truth.

in the meantime here's a simple math problem for you
company A, B, and C all sell bushels of apples.
company A sells 100 apples per bushel with an average of 20% rotten apples
company B sells 1000 apples per bushel with an average of 2% rotten apples
company C sells 10000 apples per bushel with an average of .2% rotten apples

how many rotten apples per bushel on average?

now lets compare that to AR's
blackthorne sells 100 rifle kits
BCM sells 1000 rifles
Colt sells 10000 rifles
over a 6 month period, each company has 20 complaint threads on this site

which company has the best QC?

blackthorne fixes 4 out of the 20 complaints
BCM fixes 19 out of the 20 complaints*
Colt fixes 19 out of the 20 complaints*
(* there is always one customer who goes full retard)

which company has the best customer service?

overall which company or companies would you be most comfortable spending your money with?

That might make for a usefull and informative thread, I'm sure lots of folks here would be interested in what you've got so far

Good morning guys.

No, not Colt. I sift-out the failures due to tens-of-thousands of rounds and silly finish stuff. When I said disappointments and failures I meen failures to extract, failures to feed, failures to go bang in general due to faulty workamnship, craftmanship, and lack of quality control to catch them before going out to the customer.

And thanks, but I like and really enjoy watching my own skills evolve and the thousands of Newbies as well; don't want to anger the Gods.

well as this is posted in a technical forum, either post technical data or please go troll elsewhere.

you aren't going to anger the gods by posting FACTS. if your data isn't skewed and properly cited, it would make an excellent sticky in the AR tech forums.  sure some people will get butthurt if you post truth about their favorite brand, but facts are facts. however, if your data is biased without proper references, than yes you would probably anger folks as your data is no longer fact but opinion/slander/etc.
