by weight and durability what are the lightest FF hand guards that are durable. I am looking at the Daniel Defense lite 7" for an example.

Depends on a lot of things, but the lightest tube free float that you can easily mount rails to is something from the Midwest Industries SS series. Full top rail, mountable rail panels, it's a tube rather than a quad rail, and it weighs 1.5 oz less than M4 handguards. I love mine.

My 13" Troy TRX Extreme Battle Rail is only 11.5 ounces.

The DD rails are very light and compact without being wide and bulky like some of the others.

The DD rails have very impressive machining quality and are known for being rock solid.  I would say they are worth the price for the slim profile alone.  The DD Lite will be the lightest but require removal of the FSB and barrel, or the slightly heavier drop in DD Omega.

They're worth the money ... rock solid rails.

They do take some work to install but well worth the effort IMHO

You can pick up a DD omega for $190- 225 all day long on the EE.

Yes higher end rails are worth the extra money.  They are lighter and are better FF designs.  I have 3 Larue rails and love them all, cant comment on DD but the ones I have finger F. were nice.

Gunny seeming you are a creature of fine tuning like myself being a fellow Marine and all I think I will be purchasing the DD lite for my new build.
