I finished the lower receiver on my first AR project yesterday. I been lurking on this board for about a year reading and learning and recently started posting. This is a great site. BRD has taken over.
Everything went together well with a couple exceptions. First the front screw on the Magpul trigger guard SUCKS. Mine screwed in about 3/4 of the way and my allen wrench broke off inside the screw, so now it sits with about 2mm of thread showing. The trigger guard itself is very secure and i dont think anyone would notice except me. My second problem was the safety seemed a bit out of spec. When installed with the handgrip and detent/spring it would NOT cycle to SAFE from FIRE, and after taking off/putting on/ looking the detent was getting hung inside the groove on the back because of a sharp burr on the edge. A little filing and drilling fixed that. Now waiting on Rock River Arms upper assembly. Rock River Barreled Upper arrived yesterday. Snapped right together and I have to say I am quite please with how snug the fit is between the RRA upper and DD lower. Both A++ quality. Switched out to YHM muzzle brake. Replaced CAR handguard with Magpuol MOE unit. The only range I could get to yesterday was an indoor 25yd range, so target is my first mag. The thing was remarkably close to where I wanted the BUIS from the factory!! I attempted to keep the BUIS at a 50yd zero (while only shooting at 25yds). Optics to come soon. BUIS only for now.
