1. Im going to purchase a bunch of punches and i want to go with the Brownells brand because of the high quality but most of the sets are on back order.  So I plan to order them separate. What are the most common punches used and the only sizes ill need to assemble and disassemble ar15's?

2. I need a mil spec buffer tube for the magpul acs stock. anyone tried this ENHANCED CARBINE BUFFER TUBE and will it work with magpuls ASAP sling mount?

If your stock takes a mil-spec buffer tube and this is a mil-spec buffer tube as it clearly states, then what is the problem?
As to the punches, Midway also sells roll pin punch sets and roll pin holders.  If you are not getting the set because they are out and just ordering the individual punches and holders, get them all.  You will need them at one time or another.

yea, ive realized the Enhanced buffer tube is kinda over kill.

I though there were only like three punch sizes that were needed to disassemble and reassemble a rifle??

thanks for response.

I got a set of punches from Craftsman tools, I'm not sure how 'high quality' the brownells ones are, but these Proto punches are bad ass.

Another quick question, what is the difference between these three lock nut rings? and why the huge price difference from the colt?

From the images on the website the Colt version is  the only 'correct' castle nut, it has the relief cuts on it for staking the endplate into the castle nut... the only reason its $18.99 is because the packaging says Colt on it.

Based on pictures of the Enhanced receiver extension, the ASAP with not work with that buffer tube.

proto tools are great, no doubt.

craftsman regular punches are not bad, I bought a set.  they are on the softer side, which means they bend before they break.  but the smaller ones bend pretty easily.

the dasco set (lowes, ace, home despot) is definitely stiffer.  they break before they bend.

neither set is expensive, and I use them all in my tinkering.  through a slow process of attrition, they eventually all get replaced.  craftsman are easy to replace, as the singles are available.  dascos are not available around here in singles.

I suppose a gunsmith set from brownells or lyman or other name brand (not sure about midways house brands) will be high quality and money spent well enough.  I don't have any of those yet.

punches that are a must have are a couple of starter punches and a set of roll pin punches.  the craftsman roll pin punch set is OK but the sizes are pretty much too large for most gunsmithing.

HTH.

Thanks Caser, but no one still has answered my original question. What are the most common punch sizes used and the only sizes needed to assemble and disassemble a rifle.
