I stupidly ordered a gas tube that is to long for my barrel. Has anyone ever just cut one down? If so how did it work? It's not a big deal, but I hate to pay for shipping etc on a gas tube.
Thanks Dan |
| You can't cut it. The gas tube has a flange at the end that's designed to form a seal with the carrier key. Unless you have the tools to make this flange, you're better off buying a new tube. On the bright side, if you ever decide to swap out a longer barrel, you'll have a long gas tube handy :) |

i've done it and it's no big deal.
i cut the end that goes in the fsb to length, then plugged it with a ss rivet from ace. then drilled the vertical hole in the tube for the gas. and the horizontal hole , through the tube and the plug to hold it to the fsb. drilling this end leaves the flare and the bend alone. works great. necessity was the driving force, as there were no mid lengths to be had at the time. |
| DancinDanTX, if your ordered a rifle length tube and need a carbine length tube I have an extra carbine length tube I will swap with you for your rifle length tube. I could get it in the mail tomorow morning and you would have it bofore the weekend. Let me know if you are intreested in swapping....<><....:) |

I remember that. It took me over a month to find a mid length gas tube. I have a stockpile of them now. |
