Ok, I'm in the process of building my .357 Herrett Rimless (".357 Herrett AR") cal upper (just waiting for the reamer to arrive) but no one seems to stock .358 cal flash suppressors for ARs (imagine that!!!).  And, I am unable to measure the bore on my others to compare the bullet clearance.  I'm not at home in my regular shop but working out of town.

*Edited* I failed to mention that I have 5/8" muzzel threads & couldn't find 35 cal muzzel devices and already have a 30 cal one to bore out.*
Sorry about that!

So I ask here.  How much larger than groove diameter should a flash suppressor be bored out for proper clearance?

What is "normal clearance"?  Is a little more than normal ok?

MLG

Also, I would like to thank the person that suggested I contact ID&T for turning a custom barrel.  Outstanding work!  At a VERY reasonable price!

J & P calls for .040" over for their recoil eliminator....dunno if that helps.

Something wrong with a regular 9mm flash suppressor?

RRA for example carries an A1 birdcage and a Vortex for 9mm.  Standard thread for 9mm barrels is 1/2x36.

Flash suppressors are not made with less than 2 thousandths clearance, that's ludicrous.

I'm running 5/8" dia threads on the muzzel for a YHM Phantom to match the heavy bull bbl profile a little closer.  It didn't see any large thread 9mm available on the couple of searches I did, but wasn't taking too much of an effort as I had a 30 cal Phantom in the parts box & it will be cheaper to simply bore it out.
