| What makers build parts to mil spec as far as finish and material. I don't need auto parts I'm NOT building and auto gun. I my goal is is to have a semi auto with parts that are as reliable as possible. Since the government has certain standards that makers are required to build too, i.e. MPI and certain finishes, should be more reliable. My question is what makers build parts to mil spec. I know colt's civilian ar's are very close. But there parts are just to expensive with so good alternatives out there. So what manfact.'s lower kit is as close to what would be in a GI rifle as far as fit and finish wise. Again, I'm not building an auto rifle, my question goes to the quality end of it. Thanks. |

If you want reliability go with top tier makers. I would tell you that you get what you pay for, but there can still be lemons.Mil-spec stuff isn't always better. It's a good starting point. My el-cheapo carbine is dead nuts reliable (shoots lots of diffrent ammo). You should still train on how to clear malfunctions because they happen.
What are you building for ? Truck gun,SHTF,Plinker,Personal defense Answer : BCM,Colt,Larue,Noveske,Knights....ect. |

I'm just going to answer your question with what brands have mil-spec features or types, not sure if they are truly per mil-spec standards.
Desirable mil-spec features most guys are looking for in a lower are, the receiver extension diameter should be mil-spec size of 1.14" outer diameter, staked castle nut of the receiver extension, and the carbine buffer that are supplied are the H heavy buffer. If there's a brand that don't include the H buffer, it's easy just to get a heavy buffer and switch them. So with those features the manufacturers that have all of them are, Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske, and some others. LMT, S&W, and Stag Arms supplies their lowers with standard weight carbine buffers, but they could easily be switched by the owner. |

Mil-spec as it relates to the M16 family only refers to mil M16s & M4s. There are no ARs that are mil-spec. Folks read too much into this mil-spec term. |

I actually read your post and understand what you are asking. To rephrase, who makes AR parts that are made from MIL Spec steel and aluminum and have a MIL Spec finish. For example, Who makes an AR Lower that is made from Mil Spec Aluminim and has a MIL Spec finish. You are also asking about all the parts. Your answer is hard to find. Many people dismiss your post by simply stating, there are no MIL Spec AR parts. While true, it does not answer your question.
As many others will point out, just stay with top tier suppliers and you will be OK. This I believe is true. You could do the research, look at the technical manuals and specifications and compare them to all the manufacturers and try to figure out who is closest. Your best bet is to hang around this site for a few months, read a lot of posts, and form your own conclusions. I have been reading this site since 2001. I have been a paying member for over a year. I still don't have a simple answer to your question. Take your time, the answers will come. |
