I was putting a lower together tonight its a Spikes Tactical Lower with a Daniel Defense lower parts kit, I was putting the
pistol grip on and the screw would only go in till there was still about a 1/4 of an inch left and the grip is loose. What I am
thinking is it is just to long of a screw. I thought at first I just didn't start it right but I tried again and it did the same thing.
So my question is does this happen often? or what do you guys think this is and how can I fix it, probably going to just put
a smaller screw on it, it has a flat head screw anyway that I don't like compared to a Allen Wrench Screw.

Thanks any help is awesome.

Take your trigger and hammer out, take the grip off, and run the grip screw in. If the screw protrudes into the lower receiver, it's too long.

The threads may just need a quick cleaning, too. Is there any thread locker on the screw threads? This, also, could make the screw difficult to turn.

The threaded portion of the shank should be approx. 1" long. The head adds just short of another .250".

My Aeroprecision lower did the same thing.  I pulled the LPK out and threaded the grip screw in, looking at it from above.  They didn't machine the threads all the way into the lower (stopped short by about 1/4").  There was still plenty of thread bearing surface with what was threaded, so I just cut 1/4" off of the grip screw.

Problem solved.

I have run a tap in before, to clean the threads up a bit.
PS: Some aftermarket grips use a shorter screw. YMMV

Thanks guys I got it to work, the screw they sent was just a little to long picked up a new one and works perfectly
Thanks.

First off not all lowers are threaded all the way through, probably done so one couldn't install too long of screw to contact the tail of the trigger group and cause potential malfunctions.  Ones that stop short usually are about a 1/4" short.  Usually the screws that come in parts kits work it's odd that yours was so long that it wouldn't.  I personally like mine tapped all the way through as I usually add a set screw to barely raise the tail of the trigger to reduce creep, makes for a much nicer pull on the trigger IMO.  This is just one of the steps to a very inexpensive trigger job.
