I've got a 14.5" heavy barrel Bushmaster upper with a pinned and welded AK74 flash hider.

I f-ing hate that brake/hider/thing. It HAS to go.

Originally I was looking at the KX3 for the cool factor, then there was the Spike's Brake but I don't think that its long enough.

Any suggestions?

I'm not looking for a length of the Spike's brake, I emailed them and asked, it's 1.5".

I'm looking for flash hider/muzzle brake suggestions

BCM Has an extended A2

Phantoms FH are long enough
For brakes take a look at the M4 thread, lots of 14.5's with all kinds of muzzle devices.

Well in that case I would go with a Smith Vortex and never look back!
On a 14.5” barrel it will give you an overall length of 16.1”
And it is arguably one of the best flash hiders made.

Those are some great ideas...

You have any experience with any of those?

+s for Sunspot. What a great colection of Pics!

My vote is for the GoGun Talon Brake (last in 2nd row). I shot it and was simply amazed. I could not detect ANY front sight movement and recoil was very well controlled. Not much side concussion either. It does "supress" flash some but not totally

Knight's Armament Triple Tap

Yeah, it is sweet, but not worth the $400+ to me. Personally, I like the PWS FSC556 and simalar DNTC style brakes for around $100.

It's hard to go wrong with the phantoms.

Just out of curiosity, what is it about that brake\hider that you don't like.

It's mainly the aesthetics.
It's nice and very effective, but I have to grind it off in order to get the front sight off and to put on the FF tube.

you could also grind off the front sight just above the gasblock. put some alumiblack on to touch up the finish and it looks just fine.  it would allow you to put on your free float tube and you wouldnt have to try grinding anything off anywear near your crown or the bbl.  and if your new FF tube covers the BG then even better.
just a thought

Go with the Vortex ....... that KX3 is uglier than a mule eating briars.

Vortex or Phantom.  I just removed another mini-y the other week on a BM 14.5" and pinned/welded a Phantom myself.

No biggie, no regrets.
