| I dont really wanna buy a full AR-15 so i just want to build it. I saw on youtube that this person bought all the parts for an ar-15 for $528. SO i want to know all the parts i need for an ar-15 im probley going to use gunbroker.com |

If you don't already have the tools to put it together, you need to factor that into the cost. There is a stickied thread telling you everything you need to know about building your own titled: Assemble your own LOWER, UPPER, FREE FLOAT, TRIGGER, GAS BLOCK - Step by step instructions!
Read that before you buy anything. |

DSA arms has completed uppers and lowers relatively inexpensive. I don't know how long of a wait they have. I think the only other things you would need to buy would be a bolt/carrier and charging handle.

Obviously your very inexperienced with the AR-15, and are probably not in any position to build one yourself at this point. you can buy all the parts you want, but with out the knowledge of how to put them together PROPERLY they aren't going to do you any good.

What exactly do you want to build? This will get you started.
Upper receiver (you can get it stripped or assembled) Lower receiver Lower Parts kit Buffer Buffer tube (mil-spec or commercial) Buffer Spring Buttstock Bolt/Carrier Charging Handle Barrel Assembly (or you can buy all the parts separate) Barrel shroud or rail I would suggest getting some tools (punches, upper receiver block) It will make things a lot easier if you buy the correct tools. I would do a lot of reading on this site and you will find a lot of information. Look on the site sponsors websites, you will find these parts. |

just as everyone has said,you need to do a lot of reading before you even attempt to build an AR,especially from parts,and not kits.theres torque values and headspace to consider amongst a host of other issues needing addressed.
and as far as the cost of the build,it depends on what your building,and the purpose.these are all things you need to figure out before starting a build. that being said im building my first AR from nothing but parts now,so i have personally installed every part.as of right now im $1,500 into my build.but i have a lot of experience with the M16,M4,AR-15 series of rifles.and i did a lot of reading on this site especially before i started my build. if your going to ask the hives advice, receive it well. |
| Do you know what you want? There are innumerable styles of all these parts. Going with the cheapest everything may produce you a rifle that neither looks nor works particularly well. How well do you know the platform? You won't regret doing more research; it'll be the difference between winding up with a nice first build you can tweak to get just right and a mess that will make you want to immediately get a second. |

What is the link to this video? At that price it was probably posted 5 years ago. We had an election in 2008 and guns/parts/ammo have gone up in price since then.
You will save $100 if you buy the completed upper and lower separately - no federal excise tax as you would not be buying a complete firearm, just part assemblies. I would suggest taking that $100 saved and applying it to learning how to make ammo instead, as it pays for itself with every lever pull of the press... |
