try using KG coatings(gun-kote) spray on/bake on if you want it permanent. If not just use a spray on paint then use a paint remover when the killing season is done.If you use it permanent, use the 2400F series for the finish.if seasonal just use a flat black then remove. There is also tape you can use.Probably the easiest way.comes in cammo or just use black electricians tape.many options.Tape some burlap on the barrel.

I would bead blast it.

Try a Bow-Flage kit. Its like a spray paint, but super easy to remove. My unit used it in Iraq. Its not real durable, but since your looking for non-permanent that shouldn't be an issue for you. I would just lightly dust the barrel, i.e. hold can 18" away, spray lightly a few degrees past the intended target so the overspray gently falls on the barrel. This will give you an extra-light coat that will be easy to remove.

I would rub it with scotchbrite pad (or some 220 grit sandpaper) to cut down the shine.
