Okay so I'm building my first rifle and I went with a midlength 14.5 and 9 inch free float. I also purchased a upper height gas block. Now I probably should have gone 12 inch rail, but I didn't and was curious about the gap between the rail and the block..Is there a product I can buy that will hide the gas tube?

Silly question, but is the rail designed for mid-length guns? If so, I would question whether your gas block is properly positioned.
If your gas block is indeed positioned correctly I think I would return both the gas block and the rail and get a configuration that is optimized for a mid length gas system. Or just use a lo-pro gas block and a 12" rail as you suggested. I also question the need for a mid-length gas system on a 14.5" gun. AFAIK, the mid-length system was devised because the Carbine length systems were designed for a 14.5 and were not optimal for a 16" barrel. So the middy on a 14.5 seems to be the opposite situation; using a 16" optimized system on a 14.5" gun... |

I really hope that isn't a 14.5" threaded barrel without a SBR stamp. I Live in the Commieweath of Massachusetts so I am very adverse in my knowledge of gun laws since I still live under MA's own AWB. This is one reason I went with the gas block rather then the A2 sight because the A2 has a bayonet lug on it..which is a no no here. Quoted:
Just a thought... Is your jam nut up close to the upper? Maybe you can unscrew the FF out on the barrel nut a little more and move the jam nut out too. This would close up the gap some. This would cause a gap between the upper and the rail. Quoted:

With the gubment profile barrel the gas block hits a ledge in the barrel so I can't get it back any further..I've blown air threw it and the alignment is fine.. The rail is exactly 9 inches long if it was 9.36 it would be perfect. As for the gas system the mid length will cycle easier and the pinned brake to make it the legal 16'' will make it more aesthetically pleasing. Theres nothing wrong with my setup. The barrel is also 1x7 twist. |

...Is there a product I can buy that will hide the gas tube? could you install one of those round handgaurd-caps? That would look pretty clean. http://www.shop.dezarms.com/images/AR%2015%20Round%20Hand%20Guard%20Cap%20-%20Notched.jpg $3.00? (the pic's a link) |

(the pic's a link) I did order one for shifts and giggles but worried that its thick enough to screw up the alignment of the barrel gas port into the gas block port....I hope its thin enough to work. |
