I haven't waded thru all of the previous post to research...I'm lazy.  I would appreciate pros and cons on building my first AR-15 using J & T's rifle kit and a Double Star stripped lower.  On the con side what would you personally recommend?

What would both of those kits run you?

We'll...I'd tell you...but I'm lazy...

I guess I was misinformed about this being a friendly and helpful site.  Thanks for setting me straight on that misconception.

Pros: you learn how to build a rifle.
Cons: you have to build the rifle.

id like to say something about how dumb this thread is, but like you, I'm lazy

Don't get all snippy with us, why is it you come on here, admit you're too lazy to do any leg work and expect us to explain everything to you? Why should we take our time to help you when you won't take your own time to help yourself?

Do a SEARCH do some READING and if you still have questions we'll all be MORE THAN HAPPY to help you until you get every single one of your questions answered and are on your way to the range.

What configuration are you planning to build? Do you want cheap, or do you want to do it right the first time?
A couple of things that I personally consider to be a good "foundation" of a build:
M4 feed ramps, a good trigger, and a good barrel. Keep things simple, learn the basics, and don't throw your cash away on every little accessory. In my opinion, it is better to spend your money on good parts, ammo & practice, than to screw around coloring in your engravings and what not. Example: I would rather have a good trigger than a custom grip. YMMV

Roland you are absolutely correct.  I was not familar with this site and how easy it is to find things.  After your post I got un-lazy and discovered that there is a tremendous amount of information available...if you look for it.  I should have done a little "looking around" before I took offense at what I considered rude remarks.  Sorry about that and thank you to whoever it was that dropped the hint.  Didn't mean to offend anyone.

Locke12 thanks for the input.  I'm getting back into target shooting after about a 35 year hiatus.  I want to build a decent Target AR-15 to begin with.  If I like the AR-15 then I may build another if I'm not satisfied with the first effort.  I guess I should have included more questions other than opinions about one specific company's products.  Thanks again.

No problem, like I said, once you do some searching around come back and we'll answer any questions you still have.

Actually speaking as a new builder myself you bring up more than I asked, and cause me to have more questions.  It's a Catch-22 I'll never get all the questions answered, so I'll never start...

Seriously, I'm a wade in and do it sort of guy.  The only reason that I haven't jumped in and made my mistakes is that I don't have all the parts together yet.

I started building last year.  There's lots of good info on this site with step-by-step instructions.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

For target shooting you should start with a good barrel and a good bolt carrier group (BCG).  The barrel and bolt are the main factors that contribute to accuracy.

The trigger is also important, but I'd recommend that you start with the stock trigger that comes with your Lower Parts Kit (LPK).  It will be sufficient to get you started while you decide what kind of trigger will work for you. There is a whole religion on trigger selection... you should do some shooting before you decide.

By the way, this is an addictive hobby.  You will definately like the AR and then you will have to build another one... and another one...

CMMG forged lower
DPMS LPK
Timney single stage match trigger
Magpul ACS stock
Milspec forged upper
Young BCG
Noveske 16" stainlee barrel (mid-length gas system)
Noveske gas block
Daniel Defense 12" M4 rail

Yeah, your jumping the gun a little.

I am a newbie.....this site has been awesome. Tons of info.   Read....read....read.

As far as triggers, get a new one quick.  Accuracy with 6 to 8 lbs is tough.

This is the great budget way....Bill Springfield....
