I've discovered a bit of a mismatch between my RRA lower and the Vltor RE-1 receiver extension..... the timing of the threading on the RRA lower resulted in either not enough coverage of the buffer detent or too much with one more turn of the tube. I opted for one more turn and resorted to filing away some of the lip on the buffer tube and now it looks good to go - the detent is secure and not going anywhere.
The end of the tube is now all the way flush with the inside of the receiver. I know it was only one more turn but it got me thinking... how much tube is needed behind the receiver? would this ~1/8" reduction in the tube length bother anything? Also, does the soft tip of the buffer actually hit the rear of the tube when firing? I hated to resort to filing but I hated even more the thought of the detent and spring popping out and flying around the action. Also wondered if the threading was out of spec what else was. But I looked real close and determined that when I assembled upper and lower together the buffer was indeed being pushed away from the detent (so the hole for the detent looks to be in the right place) |
