Question is when building a gun what is your price line? Meaning if you build a gun and put top of the line everything on it even though it's bad a** does it really justify a $$$$$ price tag? I'm putting a 308 AR together a little at a time to cut down on sticker shock and if all goes well I've planned on adding only the best accessories. But when I finally added up the total cost I start to wonder is it really worth the price?? If you could post the price of some of your setups maybe I could compare Thanks.

If I offended anyone with the mention of $$ I'm sorry, but I know from the pics I've seen that some of you are Rock'N some high $$ rigs and I just wanted to know if those who do have any advice or regrets on building a top shelf rifle.

It's not what we spent, it's what you can afford.  Spending any more than that number is a foolish, childish act.

I don't even look at prices anymore when I build, if I want to add something I just waait till I can afford it then buy.  If there was something I thought was to expensive and I took the cheaper option when the rifle was put together I know it would bother me that there is something I should have changed.  That would mean I would have to build another one just to add that accessory and end up spending even more money.  I have built two rifles so far both have cost well over $2,000, and I am starting the third now.

Thanks Glazer1972 that's why I was building it a piece at a time so I could put what I wanted and not settle.I was just curious why others built their $$ rigs.

I get depressed when I put a dollar value to my rifles.  I have nearly $10K into my four AR's but I love them.  The only time I feel bad about it is when I look at my EXCEL spreadsheet of my spending.

Welcome to the site. Look around more yo'll find you can build quaility for less. People here build all kinds. Top end is sweet if you can lay out some serious cash go for it. LaRue makes it easy to drop some big bucks.

For me the only time too much is too much is when there is a less expensive part that will do the same as the expensive part. As you can see I reserved the better money for the barrel and trigger as those contribute the most toward accuracy. I also went with quality on the BCG as that is a high stress part.  As for the upgraded charging handle, that offers function not available with a cheaper alternative. Everything as long as its built to spec dimensionally, parts is parts.

Spend as much as you need to in order to make the rifle meet your needs.  Make sure you leave money in the budget for optics and a good mount and AMMO.
