Hey all. Just starting to assemble parts for my first build and
was wondering what the differences of a mid length gas system verses a carbine gas system? Performance, parts needed, etc thanks in advance and can't wait to start building. |

Welcome to the site.
The gas port of a mid-length gas system is approximately 2" closer to the muzzle than a carbine length system. Obviously, this moves your front sight base or gas block further forward. Overall barrel length remains your choice or whatever is available. Parts: Different barrel (gas port drilled closer to muzzle), gas tube (longer than carbine),and handguards(longer than carbine). All else remains the same. Performance: Functionally, the mid-length system is a bit more reliable. |

Armalite calls all of their non RIFLE length rifles "carbines" because they are all carbines. Some carbines have a true carbine length gas system and some carbines have a midlength gas system. The only difference being the distance between chamber and gas port. So therefore the gas tube will be longer and so will be the handguards on a midlength versus a carbine length gas system. |
