A couple weekends ago at a friends BBQ the topic of guns came up (imagine that) and one of the guys there who sounded like he knew what he was talking about, started telling us that he used to shoot bench rest matches with an AR and that he would cut his extractor spring so that it wouldn't throw brass 10ft.

I guess it would work but I don't see it being real dependable (FTE) does anyone else do anything like that or know of a kit that does something along those lines?

Thanks

Are you sure he didn't mean/ say EJECTOR spring. Cutting extractor spring would just cause the extractor to slip off the case and FTE, or DF. Ejector spring weakening (cutting) would cause a short ejection. I wouldn't, but it ain't me.

+1

Cutting the extractor spring would probably lead to malfunctions. The ejector spring not so much.

Depends on what's more important to you: keeping the brass close or 100% reliability. BSW

My uncles does this to his rifles.  He is a bench match shooter.  Has been since before I was even born.  He gave me a barrel and bolt with the cut ejector spring.  No ejection problems yet.
