| Is there any where that lists the parts needed for assembling an upper reciever along with a how to thanks |

Did you check the Brownell's videos and PDFs?

| Bushmaster put out a small pamphlet at the end last year as far as i know, I picked one up at Gander Mountain over Christmas. Its about 3"X5", and is red and black on the front with the Bushmaster logo and such. In the middle of the book there is a diagram of a disassembled ar-15 with every little piece and part down to the detent pins and springs, and it shows where each one goes. thats what i used to assemble my gun. |

What do you want?!? There really just isn't that much to it - once you have the parts, it's pretty hard to screw up, especially with the guides pinned in the BIY forum. If you are looking for a parts list, that will depend on what you want to build and how you want to build it. Let me make it easy for you. The easiest way to do it is to buy the following things:
A complete BCG assembly A barrel assembly that includes the front sight base, flash hider, delta ring, front handguard cap, gas tube and gas tube roll pin A complete upper receiver including the dust cover and forward assist A charging handle Handguards That's it! If you want to go custom, then you will need to do your research, but the above parts list is ALL you need to build a basic upper, minus a rear sight or optic Each assembly has 2-20 parts already put together for you. Unless you 1) just want to waste money 2) just enjoy doing pointless work or 3) want to build something custom, then there is no need to buy the 30-40 individual parts for an upper. |

I wondered about that too. It's ridiculously easy once you have the parts in your hands (no pun intended). The CH has two little nubs toward the muzzle end that fit into two little cutouts on the roof of your upper. Slide them in and then push the handle forward a few inches. Then insert the BCG into the upper receiver with the gas key in the channel on the bottom of the CH. Let the CH and BCG slide forward until the CH latches in place. If you have a barrel installed in your upper, the bolt will also close on the barrel extension at this point. You can verify it is all the way forward by pressing the forward assist.
Do my directions make sense? I can see the parts in my mind as I'm typing but I don't know if what I'm writing makes sense if you've never seen the parts. If I can clarify anything let me know. What parts do you already have or are you completely starting from scratch? Edit: Oh yeah, there's a sticky post in the maintenance forum that shows assembly/disassembly of the BCG if you're interested. |

Unless you are a gunsmith, do not buy a barrel minus the barrel extension. The VAST majority of AR-15 barrels out there already have the extension installed because that is what sets the headspace of the barrel. I know the parts schematics show it as a separate part but it is usually considered part of the barrel because it is always installed by the manufacturer. Even "stripped" barrels still have the extension attached. I have yet to find a barrel that doesn't have a barrel extension but should YOU find one, steer clear - it's probably a barrel blank anyway.
And yes, you HAVE to have the extension - it is what mates the barrel to the receiver and it's what the bolt locking lugs lock into. Not having one on your rifle would be like not having a transmission in your car - the rest of the parts are there, but it just doesn't make sense. |

I'm not trying to be a total ass but how do you expect to assemble a rifle if you can't do the simple research on how to put it together?
*holds your hand* *places link right in front of you* "Now just cwick on the wink and evewything will be awight." How To Build An AR-15 From Beginning to End If you really need it in text, buy the manual. |
| If text form (with illustrations) is what you want, then you could use the TM9-1005-319-23, "Unit And Direct Support Maintenance Manual M16A2, M4, M4A1". |
