I just finished building a CMMG lower with CMMG's LPK.
I have one spring left over, and have no idea where it goes.
I went by the tutorial on building a lower here and used all the parts shown.
The spring is "tapered" and the smaller end is the same size as the disconnector spring.

Any ideas as to where it goes?
The weapon functions as it should.

Is the spring you have in the disconnectoer the same size all the way or tapered/flared on one end?  It should be tapered which sounds like the extra one you have.  The non tapered/flared one is the bolt catch spring.

It sounds like you have the bolt catch spring in the disconnector.

Here are the nine springs you should have:

2 detent springs
1 selector spring
1 bolt catch spring  (about the same size as the disconnector, but not flared)
1 hammer spring
1 trigger spring
1 disconnector spring (about the same size as the bolt catch, but it is flared)
1 buffer retainer spring
1 magazine catch spring

I used the correct bolt catch spring as per pic of tutorial.
Here's a couple pics of it

It's a disconnector spring.  If you have an identical one in the disconnector than you got an extra.  That means you would have started out your LPK with ten springs instead of nine.

I have a non-tapered spring in the disconnector.
It didn't look as though the top of the tapered spring would fit into the slot on the trigger where the disconnector sits. I guess I was wrong.
Do I need to change the springs out?

Yes.  The tapered end goes down into the trigger.  It snaps or screws in.

I'm confused on what spring you have in there already.  It sounds like the bolt catch spring, but if you have one in the bolt catch did you get two?

Can you account for the nine springs I mentioned?

Yep, all the springs you have listed were used except the tapered.
Guess I did get an extra.

I'll change out the disconnector spring.
Thanks a ton for your help.

No problem - good luck with it.  Now you have an extra part for the bin or to start a new build.
