ok, i want to build dedicated .22lr upper. i'm not purchasing a complete one from CMMG or Spike's purely because I have a few parts sitting around.

parts that i have:
CMMG stainless .22lr conversion w/ 5 mags
Complete Lower
spare quad rail
spare charge handle

parts i plan to buy:
Spike's Dedicated .22 M4 Profile barrel
A3 flattop upper receiver
Spike's ST-22 Dedicated Collar adapter for .22 conversion bolt

my question is about the Upper receiver, should i get one WITH or WITHOUT the M4 free ramp cuts?

i figured it doesn't matter because for the .22lr conversion, it uses it's own feed ramp and the barrel extends further into the upper receiver than a regular .223/5.56 barrel anyway. so would getting an Upper w/ M4 feed ramps be ok?

my second question is regarding my CMMG stainless .22 conversion.

Can I use Spike's ST-22 dedicated collar on my CMMG unit?

I assume i could, but i can't be sure. CMMG has one but i believe it uses a set screw to bolt onto the barrel, not onto the bolt like i think the Spike's does.

thank you in advance!

I'm just finishing up my dedicated .22LR build using a Spike's bolt.  I asked them that same question and was told it doesn't matter either way because of how far back the barrel breech is in the upper.

Have fun with your build!

thank you! that's exactly what i thought, i but i wanted to see what everyone else thought as well.

i emailed them today about possibly using their dedicated bolt collar with my CMMG unit, and they said it wouldn't work, but i don't see how it wouldn't work. they look exactly the same, and i know there may be some subtle differences but i don't see it. but i'm not the engineer that built it. all the .22lr conversion designs are almost identical to me. i've seen one guy convert his unit to being dedicated by cutting off the barrel extension. it looks like the CMMG unit, but CMMG wants to mount theirs to the barrel, not the bolt carrier. i guess in the end, either way it doesn't matter b/c it's going to be a dedicated rifle.

Spike's probably just doesn't want to be responsible if i mess up something. but we all know that Spikes doesn't make their own uppers or lowers. the forged lowers are from AE, and the billet ones will be from Seekins. the piston kits come from Adams. so i assume the same thing happens w/ these .22lr conversions, 1 or 2 companies make them, several companies rebadge them.

You could get a Barrel and collar that will that will work with the Spikes, Ciener and CMMG kits.
These barrels and collars are fitted with each other with no slopp for incresed accuracy.

how does that collar mount to the barrel? set-screw like CMMG's? or does it mount to the bolt like Spike's? also, does it come in a 16" version? thanks!
