I'm almost done with my first build, but I have no rear sight. Eventually I will buy an EOTech but until then I want to mount a backup iron sight. Should I go with a Magpull MBUS or should I save up some more dough and go with a Troy or a MI? Do you think a plastic sight will be durable enough to function as the primary sight until I can afford an optic? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I have a front and rear MBUS on my rifle, and I really like the look and design. They seem pretty rugged, but I'm not out throwing my rifle down the driveway. It really depends what you are going to be doing with your rifle, but I think you should be fine with them. |

I had the MBUS and sold it a few days ago and orderd a Troy from La Rue should be here in a few days. I liked the MBUS but it felt kinda cheap and not stable IMHO. Liked the fact that I could get the Tritium Insertsin the Troy. AIM surplus had a deal a few weeks ago for the Troy sights for front and back for $200 but I missed that one. |
| I'm with Mobius on this one. The MBUS are nice for the price. No problems. They will function as a primary sight system until you get the Eotech. After you get the Eotech they will make great back up sights. The Troy is in a different class. I don't think there is any doubt it's a better sight, but you see it in the price, too. I'm going to change out a set of MBUS to the LaRue marked Troy's (best price I can find) primarily because they are smaller, but also because they have a strong reputation for quality. |

for $65 for a front and rear MBUS set, if i didn't have Troy's already, i'd jump on it in a heart beat. i've already got 2 sets of MBUS's though, 1 and a Ruger 10/22 w/ Archangel stock, and 1 just sitting around waiting for a build. Where can they be had for $65 a pair and can I get them in OD for that price? |

I agree on the ARMS sight. Dick from ARMS is an a$$! I was thinking about the ARMS sight but reconsidered after a read a few posts about the company. There is NO WAY that I am giving them my hard earned money after some of the stuff I read! The La Rue Troy sights with the inserts may be a little pricey but it is worth it for that little extra that you get. Here is a pic of the La Rue B.I.U.S http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/catalog/P1291845.JPG What do the Larue branded troys have that the standard troys dont? |

| I'm in a similar boat. I needed some flip ups until I can pony up for the ACOG that I want. My friend has troy's and they are VERY nice but for the price difference I could not over look the MBUS. I ordered a set I love them! I'd happily buy another set! They work great! Only thing to watch out for is make sure the ones you are ordering are not the cheap airsoft knock offs. |
| If you're going to remove it afterwards, the Magpul is a great deal. If you are going to leave it and just do an EOTech, still, Magpul is a great deal. If you are going to have a magnifier with a flip mount behind the EOTech, well, the magnifier eyepiece would not fit over the top of my Magpul flip up rear, so you might want to watch out for that, if that is your eventual plan. |
