I am new to building AR's, and noticed there are a few different size buffers for different applications. Just wondering if someone could do a general breakdown of buffer sizes for most general applications.
Thanks |

Basically, it comes to this. For a standard rifle, use a standard buffer, unless you have issues...
You can play with buffer weights later on, to "tune" the rifle, if you feel it needs it. But in most cases, the discussion regarding buffer weights, is much ado about nothing. There's no magic buffer weight that's going to run better in ALL guns. You just have to tune the buffer to YOUR gun, if/when it needs it. |

As far as size, there are generally rifle sized buffers and carbine sized buffers. They match to the type of stock/reciever extension that you are using. For example, an A2 stock would use a rifle buffer while a 6-pos would use the carbine sized buffer.
There are also different buffer weights. For the carbine, for example, you can get the standard, H, H2, H3, 9mm, etc. weighted buffers that will impact the cycling of the weapon in different ways. |
