I just mated my new stripped upper and its loose, what can i do? |

This comes up every so often.
Here's the issue.... YOU'RE getting ahead of yourself. Part of the tensioning between the UPPER and LOWER is from the BUFFER/Spring assembly. Whenst the back of the bolt carrier is against the buffer it pushes the buffer back slightly and tensions the two halves together. If you don't have the whole gun together, you're not getting an idea of the real situation, Jethro. |

Many ARs are "loose" right from the factory. Others can be tight. RRA recommeds to use a mallet to "gently" assemble some of their lowers due to tightness. My guess is you are OK. If you don't like it the only thing you can do is buy another lower and see if it fits "better" for you. Otherwise bring your upper to the store with you and see if they will get you try different lowers to find one that "fits" your upper.
Post a picture so we can see your problem. |

there are a few tricks to tighten up the upper/lower interface such as the accuwedge, o rings around the upper's lug(s), tensioning pins, "bedding in" the upper among others.
BUT a BIG +1 to finishing the build, and shooting it before deciding its a problem. don't go lookin for trouble, it'll find you easy enough. |

I just mated my new stripped upper and its loose, what can i do? If I can fix it, I'll send it back. If I can't fix it I'll just get rid of it and I wont bother you with the unpleasant details. And while you're at it, define 'loose'. this |
| Slightly off topic, but I've been wondering for some time: what is the big deal with a little bit of looseness? If your sights and barrel are all mounted to the upper receiver, a loose lower shouldn't affect accuracy at all, right? I'm speaking as a noob, but I don't see where the problem is. |

If your sights and barrel are all mounted to the upper receiver, a loose lower shouldn't affect accuracy at all, right? I'm speaking as a noob, but I don't see where the problem is. Its all in the shooter's perspective. Many don't care if its a bit loose. Like you said, it doesn't affect where the rifle shoots. The sights/optics are mounted on the upper and it is (should be!) all solid in relationship to itself. If the upper is loose and this bothers a person they should just try the fixes already listed here. Me, I don't notice it at all once I am firing. If I sit and over analyze it I become aware of it. As was mentioned, you look hard enough you will find problems. Most of those problems aren't really problems at all, they are just "characteristics". This is a mass produced rifle with tolerances. Some parts will fit more on the tight side, some more on the loose. If you really want a tight fit give RRA a call and they will sell you a special matched upper and lower assembly that fits TIGHT. |
